Welcome to the Anemone 3-D\u00a0Imaging Lab at\u00a0UNCG\u2019s Department of Anthropology where we use digital photography, photogrammetry, 3-D printers, and surface and CT\u00a0scan technologies to model and analyze 3-dimensional form of bones, fossils, archaeological artifacts, and even geological and paleontological localities. Our main research applications of 3-D\u00a0technology\u00a0are in the following\u00a0areas of analysis:<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Papio anubis<\/em> cranium<\/p><\/div>\n

  1. Skeletal morphology of fossil primates and other mammals, including the\u00a0extensive samples our field\u00a0teams have collected from Paleocene and Eocene deposits of the Great Divide Basin in southwestern Wyoming,<\/li>\n
  2. Skeletal and functional morphology of living and fossil humans, non-human\u00a0primates, and other mammals,<\/li>\n
  3. Geologic and stratigraphic modeling of paleontological localities from the Great Divide Basin.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We also incorporate\u00a0these technologies in our\u00a0teaching of a number of undergraduate classes including\u00a0Methods in Biological Anthropology<\/em>\u00a0(ATY 361),\u00a0Human Evolution<\/em>\u00a0(ATY 455)\u00a0Zooarchaeology<\/em>\u00a0(ATY 477), and\u00a0Human Osteology<\/em>\u00a0(ATY 453) in which students gain hands-on expertise in creating and analyzing 3D virtual models of bones and stone tools.<\/p>\n
